Surgical Associates, LLP, of Grinnell is a partnership of surgical specialists in private
practice in Grinnell, Iowa, who have provided expertise and skill in the surgical treatment
of disease for over forty years. Our surgeons are superbly trained, innovative, creative,
and compassionate, and combine the most advanced surgical care available with the most
capable hands and intellect, providing an optimal milieu for recovery from illness with
resultant good health. The team of General Surgeons, Urologists, Physician Assistants,
and Nurses, in combination with our affiliated allied health care professionals, attends to
a broad spectrum of surgical needs, from the simple to the most complex.

WHAT WE DO
Surgical Associates’ surgeons diagnose and treat nearly every surgical illness located
between the upper neck and the toes; what we don’t do is heart surgery, brain surgery,
and major joint and bone surgery---though that could change at a moment’s notice should
we add an additional surgical specialist! So if you’re not sure if we can help, give us a
call and ask; chances are we can.
Our group is known for innovation and leadership in the development and application of
new---even futuristic---technologies and approaches to the surgical treatment of disease.
That’s why Grinnell has a reputation for excellence in minimally invasive (micro)
surgery, which is our standard approach to everything in the abdomen and chest. Even
newer approaches, such as single micro-incision surgery and Da Vinci robotic surgery
have become standards for our surgeons; and in 2011 we
added an amazing new incision-less surgical approach for the first time.
Our innovative work is also the reason why the Grinnell hospital is a Level I Center of
Excellence for Obesity Surgery; the only hospital of its size in the country accredited by
the American College of Surgeons with this highest of distinctions.
WHERE WE ARE
Our main office is in Grinnell where all providers have clinics---Drs. Coster,
Kuiper, Severidt, Bandstra, Smith, and Stefanie Noun, PAC. We also have a General Surgery clinic at the Marengo Hospital in
Marengo (Dr. Kuiper); and Urology clinics in Pella (Drs. Bandstra and Smith), Newton
(Dr. Bandstra), and Oskaloosa (Dr. Smith).

Da Vinci Robotic Surgeries are all performed at the Pella Medical Center by Drs. Smith
and Coster.
Hospitals where surgery is performed include Grinnell Regional Medical Center in
Grinnell (all surgeons), Pella Medical Center in Pella (Bandstra, Smith, Coster, Kuiper), Skiff
Medical Center in Newton (Bandstra, Coster, Kuiper), Mahaska County
Hospital in Oskaloosa (Smith), and the Marengo Hospital in Marengo (Kuiper).
All obesity related operations are performed at Grinnell Regional Medical Center due to
its Bariatric Center of Excellence designation.
