Mathew Severidt, D.O. joined Surgical Associates in July, 2012. A native Iowan, he completed his residency in General Surgery at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Growing up in a rural Iowa community, as the son of a family physician, Dr. Severidt fully understands the necessity of quality primary care and surgical excellence shared by the people of Grinnell. His patients will benefit from his compassionate, pragmatic and detail oriented approach to the art of surgery.
Dr. Severidt received extensive training in all areas of general surgery and provides expert care for diseases of the stomach, intestine, biliary system, pancreas and breast. He has a special interest in advanced laparoscopy as well as endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid), hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery and trauma/critical care medicine. His training allows him to offer patients minimally invasive solutions to complex surgical problems.
Since graduating from college, Dr. Severidt has remained active in basic science as well as clinical research, and has co-authored multiple publications and presentations. Dr. Severidt’s interest in clinical research includes bariatric surgery; he is currently leading a comparative investigation of the resolution of obesity-related diseases among bariatric patients treated at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
